Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve, I got to go pick up Addie and bring her over to spend some opening gifts. After stopping at TEN different stores the day before, I finally found a Christmas dress for her at 1:30am! I also made her matching bows, and she sure was cute.

Happy Birthday Lil' Brudder!

Brudder, Bubba, BJ, Kid... You won't see any kind of sappy tribute to your life here, so if that's what you're looking for, then you must have me confused with the nice sister. All I have to offer you on this, the dawn of your 21st birthday, are a few poorly scanned childhood photographs to remind us all of how adorable you once were...

...and also to remind us of the poor fashion choices you made as a young boy.

Oh, and a couple of pictures of the grown up you are turning into. Who gave you permission to get taller than me, or stronger? That little girl is amazing, and I know she loves her crazy dad.

Happy Birthday!

50 things you didn't know about me until you read this...

1. What color is your tooth brush? Dark blue and white.

2. What were you doing 45 minutes ago? Watching something lame on TV.

Present for Myself

The other day I stumbled across the site Delight.com, which is now one of my new favorites. They feature a new deal every day at noon, but unlike similar sites such as woot.com, Delight continues to carry the products they feature instead of just doing one item at a time. I was browsing the jewelery and found this little beauty:

I bought myself the silver one, and I love it.
The awesome thing is that it shipped the same day I ordered it, and since the company is based out of Denver, I got the package the next day. They even wrapped it in silver and pink tissue paper, and threw in some extra goodies for me in the box, so it was like openeing a present for myself, from me.

Small FryDay Contest

I was trying to get a little more creative with the blog title, but I just had to copy MckMama's... it is her contest, after all.

I am posting this in order to direct some mor traffic over to her wonderful blog... and to enter a contest. If you haven't heard her story, go ahead and stop by-- I know she'd love the company. Just don't bring any apple crisp. Just head on over to mycharmingkids.net or click on the picture below.

Life in Fast Motion

So I have officially become a bad blogger. That's okay, though, because I think it means I have a life. Maybe. Last time I updated, I was in Missouri to see my grandpa for the last time. My mom and I got there after a 36-hour experience on the road with the neighbors that live accross the street from her. They were coincidentally making the drive that week to visit their daughter in Nevada, Missouri, which is about an hour away from the tiny town where my grandparents live. It was an interesting journey, to say the least. I ended up leaving my cell phone at the Days Inn in Salina, Kansas on the way out there. I ended up having no phone until the day before we left to fly back. It's not like I would have gotten decent phone reception there anyway, so it was okay. While in Missouri, I got to meet some relatives that I'd never met before. My mom has a half-brother who has three kids that I didn't know about, and I got to meet them. They were mostly nice. I say mostly because the youngest one-- 15 years old-- was quiet, and shy and strange. My mom also has a step-sister who has three kids, the oldest two I'd never known about. So, yay for unknown cousins, I guess. Anyway, the night after we arrived my grandpa passed away after a brief fight with bone cancer. My seester was able to take time away from her job to fly out for an eventful (or not so eventful) week of celebrating, funeral-going, commiserating, RV-sleeping, and bad beer drinking. I was hoping to add a picture or two here, but my camera was out of commission during the trip, and Seester has not sent me any pictures yet.

The day before we left for Missouri, I accepted a job in Colorado. I had no idea that I would even be going to Missouri at that point, and I had agreed to start on the 22nd of August. That meant that when I returned to Utah on the 18th, that I would have less than a week to pack my apartment and the things at my mom's house before I flew out to Colorado that Friday. Combine the lack of time, and my lack of planning ahead, and I was a stressed mess! I managed to clean my apartment in time, and pack two boxes of less than 50 pounds each to check as luggage. I arrived at DIA after spending the entire flight staring at the hottest guy I'd ever seen. I was so flustered trying to follow him off the plane that I forgot my carry-on, and had to turn around and go back onto the plane and get it. I am retarded.

More later!

Silly Survey

Your name:
Emily

Sometimes people call you:
Emms, Emmzo, Em, E, Emily Marie! (which is not my middle name, FYI), Sham-Sham, Donkeypuncher

You have been making the world more amazing since:
1985.

You made your debut in:
Boulder, Colorado

You are the oldest/youngest/or middle sibling:
Middle-ish. Two older-- one by seven years, the other by seventeen years-- and one two-and-a-half years younger.

Your favorite type of music:
I don't know anymore. How about rock/pop/punk/reggae/blues/electronic/indie/r&b/classical/vocal/hip-hop?

You sleep with this many pillows:
Seven. No joke. Two body pillows, a feather pillow, a standard pillow, a latex foam pillow, and two throw pillows that I made to match the curtains I sewed.

What you have the most of in your bedroom:
Probably clothes. I have lots of clothes, and they are quite noticeable right now, as most of them are in a giant heap on my second bed. Now, if the question was asking what takes up the most area in my room, I would say beds.

You have this many piercings:
I'm never sure if having your ears pierced counts as one piercing, or two. So, I have two if we go with the first option, or three if we go with the latter.

You have this many tattoos:
Zero.

This is your blog, how many people do you think read it:
Not many, but according to my stat counter, 28 in the last seven days. Impressive, since I haven't posted anything new in almost a month. Also, my stat counter says that someone in Louisiana comes here a lot. I don't know anyone in Louisiana. Who are you?

Something about your neighbor across the street:
I don't have a neighbor across the street. Instead I have a parking lot outside my bedroom window, and a river beyond the parking lot, and a busy street beyond the river. I do have upstairs neighbors who are quite noisy late at night. Good thing I don't usually sleep at night, so I don't get mad... I just steal their wireless instead.

Name an item you've kept since you were young:
I still have my blankie that my mom quilted for me before I was born. It stays on my bed at her house, though, so I don't know if that counts. On the shelf above my bed is the conch shell my grandma gave me when I was three.

You get your money from:
Well, I used to have a job, and I got my money that way, but then I went to Colorado for a while and got paid some money to be there. Now I think I am going back to Colorado to get some more money.

Your natural hair color is:
I'm not sure. I like it the way it is now,
but I'll have to go back to my AMAZING hairstylist in Littleton to get it done again next month. That lady is a genius!

Name the bands you have band tees for:
Third Eye Blind (3), Jimmy Eat World (3), The Format (3), John Mayer, All-American Rejects, Shiny Toy Guns, U2, O.A.R., *NSYNC

Your nails are painted:
Fingernails? Never. Toes? Always.

How many pairs of sweatpants do you own?
Way too many to count. If I could get away with living in lounge wear, I would.

Have you ever had sex in a public place?
Oh, the joys of young lust.

You're on a beach... what do you draw in the sand?
My name in cursive.

Exes... friends or foes?
I'm not a huge fan of the dude, but who cares.

Would you rather sleep with someone else or alone?
I enjoy sleeping alone and I feel sorry for the next person to fall asleep with me... I've been told that I have sharp elbows. Also, I will kick you.

What was the weather like on your birthday?
On the actual day of my birth? I hear it was snowy that day. This year? Sunny.

What time is it, and why are you not doing something more productive with your time?
5:41 am, and I can't sleep.

Today I am going to see another sleep center. This time I get to talk to a specialist, who is also a neurologist. I'm sort of excited this time, because now I am at the point where I just want to know what is wrong.... if there *is* anything wrong.

Except for a 2 hour nap yesterday afternoon, I have been awake for 36 hours. What am I?

viva la monkey

Once every year or so, I buy myself a new duvet cover for my down comforter. Well, a few weeks ago, I took the jersey knit cover off because it finally got too warm. That left me with the pink floral number that I bought on ebay three years ago:

Yes... it's from Pottery Barn... Teen.

I'd been looking a lot at Ikea, but for some weird reason, the stuff there wasn't really tickling my fancy. It all seemed too grown up or something. I know what you're thinking... anything seems grown up compared to that up there. I know... but I was still hoping to find something a step above the bubblegum pink flowers and serious stripes and solids. Want to know what I found? This:

If you look real hard you can see... monkeys!!!

I googled "monkey duvet". Not kidding. It's from target.com, and I believe you can also find it in stores. It was shipped out today, and I am obsessively checking the package tracker on UPS. I like that the design is one big picture, rather than a repeating pattern. Plus, who doesn't like an adorable monkey now and then?

I have come to the conclusion that someday I might have a husband, and we might have to do some compromising in the bedding department. For now, though, I shall live it up!

Procrastinating... Again

ALL HAIL THE HEARTBREAKER
The Spill Canvas

i had the notion that you'd make me change my ways
And the bad habits would be gone in a matter of days
i had the feeling that you'd open up my eyes
to a whole new world that had since been in disguise

but that day will most likely never come for me
and it's just my luck to end up getting stuck
to everything you are

so tonight I'll sit and pick apart your pictures
and overanalyze your words
the truth is that I've never fallen so hard
it's taken everything in me
just to forget your sweater so far

i had the notion that you'd make me forget the world
but your undecisive mind shows me that
you are "just another girl"
i had the feeling that those looks you gave me were real
what if i ripped your heart apart at the seams
maybe then you'd know how I feel

but that day will most likely never come for me
and it's just my luck to end up getting stuck
to everything you are

so tonight I'll sit and pick apart your pictures
and overanalyze your words
the truth is that I've never fallen so hard
it's taken everything in me
just to forget your sweater so far

i can honestly say
that i never, ever, ever felt this way
your lips, your eyelashes, your skin
these are the parts of your body
that cause my comatose to begin

i can honestly say
that i never, ever, ever felt this way
your lips, your eyelashes, your skin
these are the parts of your body
that cause my comatose to begin

i will sleep another day
i don't really need to anyway
what's the point when my dreams are infected
with words you used to say
i will breathe in a moment
as long as i keep my distance
i wouldn't want to go messing anything up

so don't go worrying about me
it's not like i think about you constantly
so maybe i do, but that shouldn't affect
your life anymore
i knew it the moment you walked into the door

so don't go worrying about me
it's not like i think about you constantly
so maybe i do, but that shouldn't affect
your life anymore
i knew it the moment you walked into the door

i'll let you get the best of me
because there's nothing else that i do well
i'll let you get the best of me
because there's nothing else that i do well

i'll be the giver and you'll be the taker
i guess that's how this one's gonna go
i'll be the giver and you'll be the taker
you've got me down on my knees and i proclaim
all hail the heartbreaker

Say Whatever You want...

I realized that I never wrote about my last concert experience. I saw Jimmy Eat World in Orem last month. They were amazing, as usual. I will post pictures later tonight, but here is one of my favorite songs right now. It's from their latest album, "Chase This Light". I love this song right now for good reasons.

"Let It Happen"

I have a ringing in my head
And no one to help me answer it
Even with you close enough to kiss.

Every minute is arranged
Every moment lasts a day
But thinking about it can't help me let go, I know.

Talk, talking a lot, but it's still talk
Gotta love how it's somehow all on me
All the petty scenes
And all the pretty things
Say whatever you want
'Cause I can laugh it off.

I can laugh it off.

I must look like I'm running away
To you at your faster pace
I wonder what it is you could have seen, in me.

I'm the evil one who said.
Gonna let everything just happen
Just like my chest, my ears are proud
The collision is such an ugly sound.

I can hear you now
Talk, talking a lot, but it's still talk
Gotta love how it's somehow all on me
All the petty scenes
And all the pretty things
Say whatever you want
'Cause I can laugh it off.
Talk, talking a lot, but it's still talk
Gotta love how it's somehow all on me
And all the placings
And all the pretty things
Say whatever you want
'Cause I can laugh it off.
I can laugh it off.

I can hear you now
Talk, talking a lot, but it's still talk
Gotta love how it's somehow all on me
All the petty scenes
And all the pretty things
Say whatever you want
'Cause I can laugh it off.

Talk, talking a lot, but it's still talk
Gotta love how it's somehow all on me
All the petty scenes
And all the pretty things
Say whatever you want
'Cause I can laugh it off.

Makes You Think

These questions were inspired by "Inside The Actors Studio". At the end of every interview, the host asks these same 10 questions to every guest. I actually like these questions. Here are my answers. Feel free to copy them to your blog to share your answers.

1. What is your favorite word?
It's a tie between 'lackadaisical' and 'vestibule'. I think both of those words are under-appreciated.

2. What is your least favorite word?
I would definitely say 'sebaceous'.

3. What turns you on [creatively, spiritually or emotionally]?
The afternoon sun, and warm temperatures.

4. What turns you off?
Being talked down to.

5. What sound or noise do you love?
The busy silence that is early morning deep in the Colorado mountains.

6. What sound or noise do you hate?
The sound that my compy makes when it is in the midst of a fit of narcolepsy.... it's a whining, wheezing, grindy beep. It sounds like it is in the throes of death by wood chipper.

7. What is your favorite curse word?
F*ck. That word is so versitile.

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I was going to say something like, 'Hollywood star', but I don't think I'd end up liking that very much. I would, however, like to try being a personal assistant to one of those Hollywood people. Then, I could get all the perks, but not have to deal with the fallout of my personal life.

9. What profession would you not like to do?
Fast food worker.

10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
"Psych!"

Hey Readers, Are You There? It's Me, Emily

I figured it was time for another post, mostly due to the fact that since I last updated, I have had 3 comments. I never have comments. Ever. Kathy says that I have strangers that love my blog. Who woulda thunk? Thanks for reading my nonsensical banter, Kathy. I'm glad someone thinks it's amusing.

Right now I am at work- the lovely, fun, amazing place I call work. I have this daunting feeling that my phone will ring any minute, and that the person on the other end of the line will have a situation that is entirely too complicated for me to handle right now. Under any other circumstances... bring it on. Today, though, not so much. Maybe I am just bitter at the idea of 19 year old boys that I trained less than a month ago being promoted to positions above me, only because they know someone higher up in the company. Perhaps. Also, I am tired.

I will update about my birthday a little bit later... maybe when I'm not being watched like a hawk. I guess I will just return to sitting at my desk, eating plain goldfish crackers, and wondering who keeps turning on the air conditioning.

A Happy List

I've had such a crappy couple weeks, I figure that taking a minute to think of the good things might be a nice change.

  • I get ten hours of overtime on my next paycheck.
  • I have friends I can count on.
  • My car takes me places when I want it to.
  • I get to take a vacation this weekend and see my family.
  • I am going to Las Vegas next weekend with my two of my best girl friends to celebrate our birthdays.
  • Work just got a whole lot better-- people are actually starting to listen to me.
  • I will have my own room again at the end of April.
  • I've been finding lots of free stuff lately (thanks to Sara and slickdeals)
  • IKEA!

A Girl Can Only Hope

Just a few Confessions

  • I just counted 15 bottles/tubes of body lotion on my dresser.
  • I afraid of my classes at school... all of them.
  • I snitched on my supervisor last week, and he got fired.
  • Recently I bought five 12-packs of retractable Sharpies in assorted colors.... just for fun.
  • For Easter, I received a plastic tube full of cats topped with a cat head. Not kidding.
  • I sewed the curtains for my room, and matching pillows.... I am also in the middle of making my first quilt.
  • I have been spending as much time away from my apartment as possible recently... I can't stand the sound of my roommates voices.
  • Every time I eat at Taco Bell, I tell myself I am never going back.
  • I found out that my roommates boyfriend makes fun of her behind her back while he is at work. I am not going to tell her because I think she deserves a jerk like him.

January is Full of Changes!

There are days when something happens that I think I should blog about. A lot of those days have gone by, and I don't have a clue what to say. Since I have a whole month to catch up on, I'll keep it quick.

♥On January 4th, 2008, the Cooley family was expanded by one. Addilyn Marie Cooley was born around 4pm in Boulder, Colorado, while I was somewhere in the middle of Wyoming, trying to get there before she arrived!

♥On January 22, I accepted a new offer for a full time job. Now I don't have to work two part-time jobs! Yay for no more waiting tables! I start next Monday, so we'll see how I like it.

♥I have been sick for about three weeks now. I am so done, it's not even funny.

♥It has snowed here at least every other day for the past month... I am just guessing, but that feels accurate. It snowed so much, that our snow tubing activity at Soldier Hollow was canceled. Argh!

♥I... Ummm.... Errrr..... I am in the *cough* Relief Society Presidency *cough*. Ummm.... yeah. I don't know exactly who was the brilliant one to think of me, but they must not have been aware of my unwillingness to get out of bed in the morning... or maybe they were, and this is their evil plan.

♥I have a new favorite movie- Juno. I saw it twice in the theater, and I have the soundtrack. It's an excellent film, and I highly recommend it. I mentioned that fact to one of my roommates (we'll just call her 'Dagron'), and she let me know how much she hated it, and said that she walked out of the theater because it was - and I quote - "vulgar and disgusting". Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Oh, Provo.

♥Oh, and my sister turned thirty, so everyone go and make fun of her now.
